Orton-Gillingham provides an approach to reading, writing, spelling, and math that is successful for children and adults who struggle to learn the skills that come so easily to others. CATT (O-G) was formed to develop and enhance professional development for Orton-Gillingham instructors.

Orton-Gillingham
Tutor Training Course
Application Process:
1. Applicants must initially submit the following documentation:
A handwritten letter of introduction - your background, education and
purpose for taking the course.
A letter of reference from a professional who has known you for at least
3 years and who has observed the student working with children.

Completed Surrey College Enrolment Contract (both sides) plus $50.00
fee payable to Surrey College (non-refundable)
A copy of one of: Birth Certificate, Canadian Citizenship card or Landed
Immigrant Card.
Most recent transcript of marks (secondary or post secondary institution)
including proof of proficiency in reading and writing the English language.
2. After notification of a successful interview and reference check,
the student will submit:

A $400.00 materials fee payable to School District #36 non-refundable
upon acceptance to the course: includes pre-course preparation materials.

A recent (Current within six months) criminal record search. Original
only please
3. Upon official acceptance into the program:
-
Balance of $1200.00 payable to Surrey College ( School District #36)
prior to course start date.
PRE-COURSE PREPARATION :
A study package of 25 hours work - will be available to you as soon as
your acceptance into the course is confirmed.

For applicants without a post-secondary degree: An essay of at least 500
words describing the Specific Learning Difficulty: Dyslexia. Use of reference
material is recommended.
Course fees must be paid in full. Facilitation of the course is subject
to a pre-registration minimum.

The membership approval committee meets 3 times per year.
Membership applications must be complete for
consideration by the committee.
Please note these application deadlines:
September 15, 2009 January 15 and April 24, 2010
The membership application committee will
require 30 to 60 days to process applications
following each application deadline.

| Orton-Gillingham Multisensory Math |
Summer 2009 Dates:
Surrey College Location
July 6 - 16, 2009
Classes take place July 6 - 10 on Monday to Friday (Friday is a 1/2 day),
and July 13 - 16 inclusive.
There are no classes on weekends.
This course is a study of ideas and techniques based on the Orton-Gillingham Approach and adapted to provide intensive development
in mathematics. It is a hands-on, interactive, instructional approach intended for all underachieving students in primary, intermediate and middle school including those with dyslexia and learning disabilities.
The overriding goal of the approach is to present practical ideas for implementing instruction so that teachers, tutors and parents can provide an environment in which all children will learn up to their potential.

| O-G Tutor Support Meetings |
North Vancouver O-G tutors meet regularly.
Location: You can access the Rec. Room from two locations -1960 Rufus Drive or 1930 Cedar Village Crescent. Both streets run off Kirkstone Drive in Lynn Valley. The Rec. Room is located in the centre of the complex where the pool is.There is no visitor parking but between those two streets parking should be easy to find.

Richmond Tutors hold informal meetings on a regular basis.The meetings switch between morning coffee (around 10:30 am and lunch (around 11:30. am.) They are held at members’ homes. A topic decided upon beforehand is discussed such as Lesson Planning or Grammar.
